Alpha Plus have worked with the Institute of Brewing and Distilling for a number of years and have supported the development of the IBD Examination System in a very professional and engaging manner. GradeMaker chose to work with AlphaPlus because they are recognised experts in the field of exam authoring and in good practice in assessment – skills aligned to our leading exam authoring online solution, GradeMaker Pro. Working together with Alpha Plus allowed GradeMaker to widen its offering to clients to include these services and so help drive improvements in all areas of exam authoring for our clients. AlphaPlus have impressed us with their professionalism and expert knowledge, and their team are always willing to go beyond the brief to help our clients. A specific example is where AlphaPlus were contracted to review 50 exam items for potential improvements, but the team reviewed all the available items. Our client was very happy with the outcome and implemented all of the recommended changes.
GradeMaker
In 2018, we contracted with AlphaPlus to produce a research report and good practice guide on the features of effective mark schemes in knowledge-based qualifications. Sarah Maughan and her team worked with us in a positive and collaborative way to understand what was needed. They delivered the research report and good practice guide on time and they were responsive to all our feedback and requirements, whilst offering creative ideas and solutions. The quality of both documents was very high and feedback from awarding bodies on the usefulness of the good practice guide has been very positive.

We consider Alphaplus to be assessment experts with a wide range of skills and therefore services on offer. We would seek their advice, support and analysis when we need an external expert viewpoint, or need specialist support with a particular project or challenge we are engaging with.
Alphaplus are able to quickly understand our challenges without needing to be provided with detailed explanations of what we do as an assessment body and what we might want to achieve. They understand assessment and AOs so are well placed to help.

AIA has worked with AlphaPlus for a number of years, we have found their guidance in developing the professional qualification so we are able to offer computer based testing invaluable. Initially AlphaPlus attended our Examiners’ Conference to explain the different approaches we may adopt when moving to CBT. Subsequently AlphaPlus provided expert guidance on how AIA should move the assessment from pen and paper test to e-assessment, providing an insight into the process. AIA is pleased to continue our relationship with AlphaPlus as we move forward in offering the professional qualification.
