International Business Development Manager

We now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced business development and salesperson to join us as our International Business Development Manager. The International Business Development Manager will work in the field to source and develop potential customers, provide customer support and maximise sales of the company’s services, working to set targets. S/he will report to the Business Development Director and work with the Business Development and Tenders Manager to support the production of proposals for submission to customers.
Our sales approach is highly consultative with sales durations of 1-6 months and projects ranging from £25k to several £million. Matching supplier and customer culture in education is a critical success factor. AlphaPlus’ reputation is as a trusted ethical professional organisation that cares about education – we need this reputation to be maintained and enhanced as our team grows.
The role will be based partly in the AlphaPlus Head Office in Castlefield, Manchester, UK, or from home by agreement, with regular visits to Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, other GCC countries in particular, and other parts of the world. We anticipate that for at least the first 18 months the role will be based overseas for 30% of the time, involving short visits of 1-2 weeks followed by a longer amount of time back in the UK. The work will involve travel to the premises of existing and potential customers.
The successful candidate will be an outgoing, achievement-oriented person with exceptional networking and interpersonal skills and a proven track record of success in business development and sales, preferably in the education sector, although this is not essential. Fluency or good working knowledge of Arabic is desirable but not essential. Awareness of and experience of business culture in GCC countries is essential, as is a strong commitment to education within a professional and highly ethical business.
