If you know the make, model and engine of a lawnmower it is likely that we can identify routine service parts over the phone. The parts department number is 01467 633720. Fax number is 01467 634921.
E-mail to gavin@alphaplusgroundcare.co.uk If you want a telephone response, remember to add your telephone number. If you order materials by e-mail, remember to add your address.
Ordering spares.
There are two main components to lawnmowers, the engine and the chassis. Very few lawnmower manufacturers make their own engines. If you need engine parts we need details of the engine, if you need chassis spares we need details of the chassis.

If you no longer have the owner's manual for your machine, try and find the product information label on your machine. The label will have the name of the company that made the machine, a model or product number, and a serial number. There may be a date of manufacture. Labels may be illegible or missing.
All engines are marked with a model number. The numbers are sometimes obscured by dirt or parts of the lawnmower chassis. If you cannot find any numbers then please remember the following points when describing the parts you require.
Batteries. With the terminals nearest to you, is the positive terminal on the left or the right?
Blades are made by the makers of a lawnmower, not by the maker of the engine. The blade is held on to the engine by a blade boss and a bolt which are also made by the maker of the lawnmower. Measure the width of cut. Is your mower either side discharge, mulching or collecting?
Briggs & Stratton make engines that are fitted to lawnmowers. Briggs & Stratton do not make lawnmowers.
Briggs & Stratton make engines called Vanguard, Diamond, Classic, Sprint, Quantum, i/c, Intek/Europa
Briggs & Stratton engine numbers are stamped on the sheet metal engine cowl beside / above the spark plug. 3 numbers; model, type and code.
Briggs & Stratton make several different models of engine. If you cannot find the model name or number it is helpful for identification if you can describe the shape and size of the air filter. It may be sponge or paper element.
Broken bits. Bring them with you if you are coming to call.
Cables are made by the maker of the lawnmower. Operator presence control (OPC) stops the engine when you let go of the handle. Throttle cable controls the engine speed. Clutch cable stops the mower when you let go of the handle, blade brake cable starts/stops the cutting blade without affecting the engine.
Engines are coming down in price. Prices start at £90.00 including VAT. It may be cheaper to buy a new engine than carry out repairs.
Engines. We sell engines.
Filters - air, oil and fuel filters are engine parts. All engines have an air filter.
Flymo. Hover mowers are often called Flymos in the way that vacuum cleaners are called Hoovers. Flymo is a product name of Electrolux Outdoor products Ltd. Hover mowers made by Qualcast or Black and Decker are not Flymos.
Flymo make a large range of equipment. If you need a blade for a Flymo we will have to know which Flymo.
Honda make lawnmowers fitted with Honda engines, these are Honda mowers. Honda engines are also used by other lawnmower manufacturers. Your mower may not be made by Honda even if it has a Honda engine.
Honda engines have a model number cast into the block (eg GX160, GX200, GX360) and a serial number stamped into the block.
Inner tubes. See tyres.
Oil. Use SAE30 in lawnmowers. There are special oils for 2 stroke mixes and saw chain.
Oil. We sell oil.
Payment may be made over the telephone by credit card. Do not send card numbers by e-mail.
Petrol. Use unleaded unless your mower is more than 7 years old. We sell jerry cans.
Petrol. We do not sell petrol.
Post is cheaper than petrol.
Record keeping is helpful if you need to reorder parts. Please keep receipts as these contain the ID numbers of the parts you have bought. If necessary, we can keep a record of your purchases on our sales ledger.
Ride on mowers and garden tractors often contain more than one drive belt. The transmission belt goes from the engine to the gear box, the mower belt goes from the engine round the pulleys of the mower deck. There may be a separate belt from the engine to the mower. Toothed belts are timing belts - use genuine parts.
Ride on mowers may have various mower decks. We need to know the width and the number of blades.
Spark plugs are engine parts.
Tecumseh make engines called - Vantage, Prisma, Synergy, Spectra, Centura, Futura, HTL, Legend/BV, BH, Geotec. MV100s (Flymo hovers).
Tecumseh engine numbers are stamped on the engine cooling cover or on a label stuck to the crankcase.
Tyre sizes are moulded onto the sidewall of the tyre. Inner tubes use the same size. When ordering tyres, use the tyre size instead of the model number of your tractor. e.g. 20 x 10.00 - 8. (NHS stands for Not Highway Service)
